Days of McLarin

Last fall, I had been excited to see the movie Ford versus Ferrari.
Of course last fall was the heart attack,Aorta rupture and essentially my death.
Not going to forget Halloween Day anytime soon!
And last night, that movie was on the boob-tube!

So, I had to watch it.
Why?
Well, my first job was with McLaren Racing, mic'ing parts on tracing engines.
It was only a part time job,
And paid all of $ .30 an hour!
Yeah the good old days when tiy were just lucky to find a job as a teen ager!

The movie was a fun romp through my memories.
Of course everything covered was prior to my getting on with McLarin.
Carroll Shelby had made his splash on the world racing scene,
But he was a legend!
The GT-40 the fastest car I ever worked on.
Fun times!

The film follows the development of the GT-40,
The interpersonal clashes within Ford Motors.
And a general white washing of some of that history!
Plus an understanding of what happened to Shelby's friend Jeff. (sp?)

I would recogmend the film to anyone interested in the racing era: 1964 to 1969,
Politics of racing,
Or why Ford deserves its reputation as an abusive sponsor.
It is why I have driven either VW or Toyota my why life!

All I can say,
Is that the GT-40 was the scariest car I ever worked on!
It was also amongst the finest cars I ever worked on!
My racing days ended in 1977,
Except for a blast from the past in 1980's when a GT-40 was found in the rafters of a Garage in Renton, Washington!

I was working on a HP system in Idaho at the time,
So on one of my trips to Boise, I diverted for a weekend to the Seattle area!
Arned with grubby clothes and a flashlight, I crawled through this dump of a garage!
And there it was!
Areal GT-40!
It had actually never even been raced!
Rich man's boy-toy.

I got it out of the "upstairs" of the garage.
Inventoried the parts,
It was mostly there!
And the property owner decided to keep the car!
Yeah, it seems Kris works for free a great deal of the time!

Last I heard, it was offered for sale for millions!
(not sure what they were smoking!)
And remains unrunning and unsold!
There are just fewer whom are qualified to work on it, with time.

Good film to watch whether you like racing or not.
GG would not give it a thumbs up since she slept through most of it!
She wanted to warch Star Trek, yet, again!

And, no, the film did not sully any reputations!
Which says something given the deviants involved in the story!

Coming Out

No, Kris is not gay.
But I have been living several years now with this dual nature inside of me.
The old one I squashed and stays such through much prayer.
The new me, Kris 3.0 as my  friends have been calling me for the past year.
That is how startling my transformation has been viewed!
And no one has known how to react to it!

..... and it has been years!

So, I finally got family and friends over for a movie night.
Yeah we broke "curfew" and distancing idiocy and a few other "laws" !
I have been compelled to share with them the movie, "Yesterday".
For the past week!

So, I popped gallons of popcorn, we brought out my stash of bubbly water and I started the film (HBO online).
At the 30 minute mark we had to stop the film.

Swede, looked at me and asked if I was feeling alright.
Garlic Girl, burst into tears.
Someone commented, "This is not like you at all!".
So we took at bathroom brake for everyone to regain their composure.

And we finished the film without further comment.

Swede: "Well, no Godzilla found here!"
Someone: "Yeah no lizards died in the making of this film!"
GG, guarded: "Well that was a nice film!", and went off to have a cry.
And everyone left.

So, I finally did it!
I exposed the fully changed Kris to my world.
My heart is free and happy.
I am now at peace after years aching over this!

As for the film, Yesterday:

It was made last year.
Ed Sheer (whatever) plays a role.
Otherwise no one appears that I recognize.
No nudity, no sex, no swearing I noticed, very G-rated.

It is just a nice story of a failing musician, whom wakes up after an auto accident.
To find that no one has ever heard of the Beatles or Coca-Cola.
And now when he performs the old Beatles play-card, he is a superstar.
But he is an honest man and is tormented being credited for John Lennon's work.

Well worth seeing, especially if you like the Beatles.
Or want to share with younger people why telling the truth is important!
I would definitely own this one but HBO films are hard to get on DVD.
sigh

As for me, I am waiting for the repercussions for having shown my new nature.
But, I am so at peace finally that I no longer have to be driven by my old nature!
And it will,  I am sure, be tacked up to a reaction to the surgical gases used on me ...
When my heart had to be rebuilt last year.

:^)

Continuity

Blogger's announcement of a new release has me cringing.
I hate wasting my time re-configuring my account and/or machine to whatever they have played with in Blog-landia!

Back in the 1980's I had a contract with a Venezuelan oil company to create a standard architecture for system's development and design, a big part of the product being the need for regression testing of the new software to prove transparency to the new user.
It was extreme fun because no one had ever done so definitive a process before.
And the fights we had!
With developers in Vietnam, China, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Mexico and the US, communication  was a difficulty!

As I thought on this, I realized that the movie industry really needed this on a scene by scene level!

Watching so many movies lately, I observe areas where this is needed:
Actor walked through a door and next scene, enter a room and the actor is now much thinner or fatter!  Or even pregnant!
Like you are not supposed to notice!
How about you are wearing green and next scene, you are now wearing blue!
Or there is lace on the outfit but missing in the next?
Or shoe changes while riding a horse?
Better yet, you take off on a nice chestnut colored horse and arrive on an American Paint?
And I loved the one where they took off on an English saddle and arrived on a Western roping saddle!

But this also extends to more "modern" movies.

In war movies, many WWI movies feature WWII Mauser rifles.
And the Germans would have loved to have had G/K-42's in WWI!
They would have won the war!

Worse is Hogan's Heroes, where the Germans are armed with American Krag rifles!
There was a reason the Krag was so short lived!
But apparently, good enough for TV audiences I guess.

(My foot is throbbing really bad right now, which makes me think of TV audiences)

Poor Jackie Chan has the worst of luck with injuries!
So many of his films he has had to finish in a cast.
Yet, they film anyway, like no one should notice the huge leg he now has!
Or foot.
Or how one arm now dangles uselessly.

But, I love how "injuries" move from scene to scene too!
Yeah, shot in one leg, limp with the other!

Well, enjoy your next viewing of a movie and count the errors!

Memorial Day

Just back from a long weekend.
Had no post at the start of the day,GET IT!
It is one of funniest movies I haveever seen!
As Google decided I need to use my old hacked Yahoo account to log in!
Of course, I use an Icelandic server now.
So had to be back home on my broadband to log in!

Google is such a pain in the .....

Never mind.
Enjoy the linked movie,
If you can find a copy -

Four And Counting

Well, this past five days has seen me stricken by four heart attacks, one of significance.
sigh ....
Dang those  parental genes!
But, given I have out lived most of my male ancestors by 25 years now .......
sigh

So, much downtime.
rying to take it easy but....
Even loading the dishwasher was too much last night.

Too much TV, but then, what else can I do that will not raise blood pressure?

Been watching a Russian mystery show, Anna Detective.
But, I think it is really Annette Detective.
And the Russian is off from the Russian I cannot recall.
But, I understand the dialogue, which does not match the translation given!
Maybe there is more than one variety of Russian?
No idea.
But I know that the greetings and numbers are not as stated!

I have often thought of my great-grandfather Scott.
His father was fabulous rich due to the family distillery.
Sent to Oxford.
Doctorate in Theology.
And he utterly lost his faith ... from my perspective.

the 19th century saw the rise of "The German Higher Criticism".
Nothingt those attacking! more than taking scripture out of reference,
Twisting it to fit an atheistic viewpoint,
Then going back to prove the Bible is false.

Most the religious problems today,
Date back to garbage published in the 1860 - 1885,
And though discreditted by people with knowlewdge,
Those with another agenda hjust keep coming back with the same charges again the Bible!

And, the defense did discredit those charges at the time.
But you see, it is the defenders of the faith whom have the agends,
No those attacking!

So, though Europe had a strong God conscience,
It was hard for the average man, or woman,
To know whom or what to trust!
Arise Charles Darwin in this belief void, and the die was struck.
Which we still struggle under in Western society.

So, Great-grandfather Scott, although thoroughly immersed in Christian thought,
Turned to mysticism in his life.
True, today it would have been recognized as demkonism.
But, at the time, it was but cool things that seem to work!

And so Anna Detective, reflects.
A non-God centered view of everyday life and faith.
Obviously written by those with NO understanding of the 19th century Russian Orthodox faith!
So, it nibbles around the edges but is unable to deal with the trappings of orthodoxy!
The very basis of the Russian rural life is stripped out,
With nothing to replace it.

So, you end up with a Ghost Whisperer kind of shoe.
But, this one is interesting,
Dealing with issues as current, as they were 100 years ago!

I would recommend the show,
But I seriously doubt anyone,
Other than me would sit through it!

Sharknado

Turned the ROKU device on Wednesday morning.
A blah day.
Why, not just suck some tea and watch Sharknado!

Such a worthless little film!
Such a laugh!
So ... sick.

Some mighty dark humor!
And, can you believe there are six of them now?
And they picked up every desperate wanna-be actor and actress along the way!
Holy Moly, such a collection of bad actors as has ever been put on film!
Oh yeah, a must watch, at least once!
Probably not an owner though!

So grab some popcorn or Alka-Seltzer,
Settle back and be thankful there is no such thing as a ...
SHARKNADO!!!!!!!

SHE

I love the movie, "SHE".
I first saw the 1960's version, upon arrival in America.
I watched it on late night TV!
And I was mesmerized, not only by, the movie, but also seeing a TV!
Much less in color!
(TV's were quite rare in Germany back then.)
That was year 9 of my schooling.

In year 10, we had to read the book.
Have you ever it?
It is horrible!
Ryder might be a classic English author,
But to this little German, he was not understandable in the least!
And my book report reflected what the teacher did not agree with!

sigh!

Right now I am watching the 1935 Movie release!
And it is pretty good!
Even for a cheesy story, the dialogue is amazingly good!

And light years ahead of the "stuff" put out these days!!!!!

On a side note,  when I first met GG, she rather quickly earned the name, Aisha ...
SHE whom must be obeyed!!!!!
And to group of college guys, that was just fine with the lot of us!

The Meg

Pick a movie that someone, oh say me, having had a heart attack - should not have gone to!
Yup, not a wise decision.
But then, wise and Kris are hardly ever used in the sentence!

If you were around to see Jaws when it first came out and stopped bathing because of it -
Or,
You started going to church to thank God there are no dinosaurs, after viewing Jurassic Park -
Much less,
Possess a weak hearty -
This is NOT the movie for you!!!!!!!!

Think of a meat grinder on steroids!
Yeah.

On the other hand someone as broken as me will laugh and howl their way though this meat fest.

The story, yes there is one!, is quite good.
Surprisingly, their use of science is right up to date.
There are technology errors, but then this is a horror not a science-fiction movie!

Acting is flat and lifeless.
Dialogue is humorous at times.
Situations were contrived by a teenage male mentality!
Gees!
So, you would think Kris is going to fail this sucker!
But, no.
Kris thinks this is an owner movie!

Of course, Kris also owns Sharknado 1 thru 4!
Yeah. we find really bad movies highly entertaining!

I am sure the movie will make a fortune.
Maybe even an Oscar for special effects - which were quite good!
I only spotted one error in the CGI.
And that says something.

Go, to a matinee.
Enjoy that Megalodons do not exist.
(even though I do have a photo of one from 1943 off South Africa.)
Then go to a BBQ place for a pile of ribs!

Why should Megalodon have all the fun!?!?!?

July 23, 2018

Aargy Bargs!

Life just continues to provide interesting situations.
Not all of which I can discuss, but trust me - interesting!
As in, has all sanity ended around me?

Remember, my memory is terribly afflicted and I have lost all analytical skills!
So, when people whom I thought (until recently) I could count on - disappear!
Conversely, people I may have known for years are suddenly friendly!
Why?
It is hard to ask someone their intention when there may well be none at all!
See my dilemma?

Last week was Swede's 65th Birthday and he was utterly freaked out!
So, he planned a cruise for himself, sister, nieces and their families.
But he is fearing death.
This is when his father died many years ago.
And all of the uncles.
No male has made it past 65!

So, he left on Saturday to go do the trip I did last year.
Should be really interesting with eight kids under 10 in tow!
On a cruise ship.
I wonder what the odds are for losing one overboard!

I took Swede out for the day.
We did Red Lobster for lunch and ate everything he will not encounter on the cruise ship!
Shopped some bookstores.
And went and saw Jurassic World again.

Still a good movie to me.
But Swede got too excited at times!
I told him later there was a warning:
Might be too intense for seniors!

He had a good laugh and then got back me with a hair raising drive back home!
Yeah he scared the tar out of me!
And it took him about 5 minutes to remember my PTSD and I was not faking it!
Lord that was awful!

Then following dinner, yup, heart attack time.
sigh
And today I have dialysis again.
This ought to be a fun one!

As I opened this with:
Aargy Bargs!*

* an expression I first heard at Jesus Explosion in 1971, somewhere in Texas

Lost World II

Been a long time since I have been out to see a first run movie!

First up, the theater was hellously expensive!
And popcorn and a water were as expensive as a fine dinner out!
Gees!
Don't go to a movie in Oregon .....

Well the sequel, certainly addressed the holes in the first movie that a truck could drive through!
And then, created a bunch more ...
Can you spell, Lost World III, IV  and V?

So, our story opens with a rescue attempt to save what dinosaurs are still alive.
Too bad military and corrupt business executives are such slime balls!
Makes you wonder what the military ever did to the writer!

As long as you know that dinosaurs love to crunch on human boners - no surprises here!
Yes, even lawyers get it - again!
:^)

A definite approval stamp on this one!
Kid friendly,
Albeit one lady yelled out,
"Noooooo, I don't want Blue to die!"
And, no one laughed!
Yeah, intense.

Iron Sky

So Swede brought over, "Iron Sky", thinking I had not seen it.
He was right.
And at minute 5 he was having to calm me down!
He forgot how touchy I am on the subject of NAZI's!

So no spoiler alert here, it is about a NAZI base on the moon, accidentally discovered in 2018 by US astronauts!
This 2012 film looks forward from 2012 to 2018.
Sarah Palin is the President looking forward on to how to get re-elected.
And into her lap falls what she thinks are play NAZI's from the "moon".

Okay, I will not spoil this one for you.

The Finish and Australian writers do not understand what lay behind the politics.
But that is not surprising in an age were history has no meaning.
They do however understand Wagner's Rings.
So, quietly this movie revolves through the story of the Ring.
Hilariously!

Were it not for my amnesia, I would know when the last time I have laughed so hard was!
And probably in all of the wrong places, judging by Swede and Gaelic Girl's responses!
But it was funny, incredibly so!
Yeah, I am a sick German!

Whomever the writers, they did a good job in creating a fantasy and making it work!
That is a statement you will not hear from me often!

Costuming was good.
Dialog rough! Though they used "swear" words I had no recollection of in German...
Concept straight out of Mars Attacks.
Music by Laibach - always a favorite!

Problems:
Brutish treatment of women by the Oberführer, all to historically accurate.
Women have a place, but .... yeah ... not politically correct.
One very uncomfortable sequence where I hit fast forward, can't tell you if they did or didn't!
And it had NO place in the film!

Outside of the fact that today's audience may find much of it shocking, due today's political correctness,
this is quite a good film!
But due to the one sequence, crude humor and language - it is on you if you see this!
You are warned ...

My father was a NAZI to the day he died.
So, I have no love for the subject matter.
But am painfully aware of the extent to which National Socialism went.
Thankfully, this film does not go that far.
Would I own this?
Probably, just as in Mars Attacks - the invader gets theirs!

And I learned on the internet, that there is an Iron Sky 2 and 3!

Lost City of Z

Swede gave me a Roku flash drive for the borro2ed TV, for Christmas.  Don't ask me, if is just so much fancy technology to avoid the cable company :)
It took both of us for ever to get it to work - we both have minds and wonder about everything that is never said!
LOL!!!!!

First thing I watched was the Lost City of  Z.  As the movie and story unraveled, I realize that I knew t1964he story, albeit in French.  So, this placed my knowledge to sometime after 1964 and the birth of my addiction to all things to do with archaeology and anthropology.

So, it was good seeing a movie about something I knew the story of!

The sad of the aspect is that the movie portrays so sadly the arrogance of the Victorian Age and the belief that all that can be known - is known!  Equally, how horribly females were treated - it made me positively angry!  Sigh - mankind just plain sucks ...

The movie is a very unvarnished look at archaeology, anthropology and the age of exploration.
I would recommend however this is an adult film due to primitive dress or lack there of.
Else there is no complaint against a well made film.

Not a must see, but it is a worthy to be seen.
Just be really for a gloves off approach to all that swirls around this topic.

Justice League

One of my boxing friends, from college days came up north for thanksgiving.
So it was interesting: he wanting to run around and me - with no wheels nor license.
Therefore we needed to bus.
But the weather was quite winter like!
So, movie time!

I really want to see Murder on the Orient Express, I have twice seen older versions and one blatant rip-off called The Cassandra Crossing.  But, my boxer friend was in more of an adrenaline soaked Justice League mood ....

And I was never an admirer of Stan Lee, Marvel or anything to do with this cartoon based series.  So we saw the Justice League.  ...sigh.... I had really low expectations, so understand when I say I am conflicted about the film .....

Many of the performances was very good wonder woman.
A few, superman and batman, were barely adequate.
And one was outright laughable it was done so poorly!

Story was a yawner, as was dialog, most acting, etc - so very uneven.

Theater was jam packed, movie got a standing ovation.

Once again, I was the lone laughing movie goer.  The dialog had some very clever turns of phrase.  By the  half way point I was really starting to wonder what was wrong with the crowd, until the movie was over and I was able to look them over:  a gathering of nerds!  And here,I thought such people were only Hollywood fiction ...

Over-all, the movie was weak, even though Gal Gadot carried the film, hers was the only noted performance.  The worse was a cartoon (cgi) of a barely disguised Arnold - oh how I laughed !!!!!

My suggestion, see it cheaper as a rental.  Definitely not a keeper ...

The Foreigner

Such a hard movie to review!
On the one hand it is the best Jackie Chan film done so far!
The story held my interest throughout the movie!
It is the best performance by Pierce Brosnan, poor as his skills are.
It is easy to see this story happening!

On the other hand .....
Damage sustained by the characters would require major recovery time in reality!
Brosnon has had a long career - plenty of time to pass an acting class - PLEASE!
Unnecessary nudity.
Unnecessary adult situation!

Plot-wise it is a simple story of revenge.
The modern politics of diverting justice for feel good-ism.
Politicians trapped by peace accords, news reporters and and an angry public.
Playing both sides against the middle - and getting burned.

So, even though I do not appreciate great films stuffing nude females in to get a rating, even if "nothing" is shown, it is still a good film.
I was not alone in not appreciating the one adult situation, such a groan from the packed crowd!
Yet it is a good adult film.

I was surprised that the 20-somethings got the film.
It deals with the IRA and its retirement.
But, action/adventure is always popular!

Best film for Chan, and Brosnon.

Kingsman - Golden Circle

Now here is a movie that is almost impossible to review -- without spreading the vulgarity of this movie!
Sure a billion reviews will sing its praises - and, if you cut out twelve minutes, so would I.  As  it is, all I say is save your money - this a POC movie, and they did this on purpose!

So much about this movie is so funny I thought I would pee my pants!
Did I mention I was the only one laughing?
Elton John was so hilarious!
Performances were good, if comedy was intended.

Naturally there is nothing supporting the good James Bond-ish sequences and instead, 14 year old action.  The mentality of Hollywood.

Our hero, if he can ever act and not be such a smart ass, would make a reasonable candidate for next Bond - but there are probably 10,000 Northern Brits could do this job oh, so much better!

Avoid ...

September 26, 2017

American Assassin

Took myself to a movie yesterday.
First choice was Kingsman, but Swede wants to see this, so must wait.
The only other film of any interest to me is American Assassin.
It was as expected, so I will not rehash what the Army, DOD and DOS tried to do with me.

I was easy to spot in this film - I was the one laughing heartily!  They did a good job for a film whose audience is aimed at 14 year olds and men whom have suffered brain damage or other mental stunting!

On the good side:
Injuries go forward across sequences - no "magic" healings between shots.
Really bad science which will kill you if you mistake this story line for reality!
No nudity!
Alfa Romeo's!

On the bad side:
Don't get too attached to the females, they do not fair well!
Really bad science a trip to the library could have saved the story from!

Biggest flaw is the inability of the writer/director/actors to model the differences between being murderous, a sociopath and/or psychopath!  Yes, it does matter because different behaviors underlie each!

Yeah, I will probably buy this one just for the memories it brought back to this clouded mind ....

Failing Yourself

One last post on my trip from a week ago.

The first day of the cruise, you know everyone has to explore!
The ship was about two football fields long and 15 floors high!

While in line, waiting to board, I had observed a young teen girl whom seemed "odd".
And odd always draws my attention.

She was with her older  sister, whom has the problem so many young people seem to have.  I am sorry but with this amnesia, I have no idea what it is and it is common enough and blamed on vaccines, I think.

So, now I am placing younger girl at a solid 12 or 13, sister no more than 15.
And though my heart remains burdened for teens, I have nothing but prayer to offer.

I observed her often everyday I was out and about on the ship.
She seemed to never leave the ship.
Could always be found in high traffic areas.
Definitely was "displaying" herself!
But the last thing I am going to do is have a talk with her!

All week long this was her behavior.
I had to wonder where were her parents!
If she even had any, thinking of the young girl in Colorado last month!
And older sister was missing until Friday!

As I mentioned, her behavior was more problematic as the week continued.
She dressed more and more provocatively.
She dressed more and more like a hooker.
And from what I observed, she was pretty much shunned by everyone.

Oh, make no mistake, there were "professionals" on board.
They were hard to miss as they flaunted themselves about.
shudder!

So Thursday comes.
I am sicker than a dog and trying to eat watermelon.
.In walks her entire family.
The parents were residents of the casino and bars from my observations.
The girl was dressed "normal", but not for her, and with huge sunglasses!

Her parents left without a word, matched the meal well.
The girl lost it shortly after this.
Such heartbreaking sobs!
And her sister got up and walked around and just held her.
I was touch be such a display of love!

Yeah, it seems someone had taken her up on her offer.
And now, she is realizing part of the cost of what she has done ...
Innocence crushed by scum sucking swine and negligent parents.
I prayed for a witness to come into her life.

Dunkirk

To the average American, here is a name which means almost nothing .... except now we have a movie about this travesty in history!

It was not my desire to see yet another war movie - but it seems that Theron's latest offering's highlight is a lesbian sex scene, hence the R rating.  So, Dunkirk it was!

I know the history of the evacuation of Dunkirk.  I was at the 25th Anniversary held on the beaches.  And you better believe no one official came!  But the survivors were well represented and I talked with many for hours ...

The movie is just that, a work of representative fiction.  But, it was a very well done movie!
Where the movie failed was too many detours to situations that made no sense nor added to rthe story in any way!  Just "filler"!  And there were no 98mm, nor 108mm shells raining down on the beach!

And, those shells were what the survivors I talked to, remembered the most!  Just the terror in their eyes as trey recalled it - standing there 25 years later!!!!!!!!!

That event was what help me reach out to the shell-shocked vet whom lived across the street from me
when I was in college.  And that memory was what I took away from the movie.

It was exciting and engrossing.  Strongly recommended!

However, if you have weak heart, please avoid.  I barely made it home - due to yet another heart failure!  Swede just sighed, probably  wondering "how much longer.....?"

Wonder Woman

I lived for many years in the Ardennes district of the French, Belgium and Lux borders.  From the old men of my village I learned much about the battles.  So I am a hard person in any war movie to please ...

Wonder Woman did an exception job.  I actually was in tears as I watched and remembered their words from so many decades ago.  No, you would not be able to figure out the where the movie got me - because it is about the feeling and you do not know their stories ....

Costuming was good, dialogue good, situations a bit cartoon-ish at times, settings good, vehicles were British being run by Germans apparently, and horrible music!  Of course it is a fantasy movie so you suspend reality from the get-go.

Holes:
British used captured German equipment - US and Brit equipment were junk over-all!
Ice cream was very rare in England
Without exception, a person's first ice cream is equated to fire - not yummy!
An airfield in the Turkish area, only hours to England!

A few more niggles, but over-all this was a surprisingly well done movie!  With a plot twist you do not see coming!

It is an owner.

And  yes Gal Gadot reminds me greatly of someone whom really wants to, "Just smash 'em the face!"

LOL  ;)
