Countdown

I am a product of the age of Space and Rocketry exploration.
Before there was a Gemini or Mercury program.

Buck Rodgers and Rocky Jones were the fill of my idle hours.
So, with the start of the Mercury program,
I got to watch many of the unmanned rocket test shots!

5,4,3,2,1, Ignition! Blastoff!
Usually followed by an Earth shattering BLAST!
Yeah, rocket launches were nothing if not unpredictable.

And the rockets were so small,
Until you walked amongst their smoddering remains!

Apollo 13 was the first f the modern age of rockets I was able to view up close,

My Great-Uncle Leonard had a vibratating chair.
Nestled next to if was huge shortwave radio.
I used to hop into the chair and turn on the news, so as to hear the  rocket laungh.
5. 4. 3. 2. 1 Ignition
(start the vibrating chair!
BLASTOFF!!!!!

It was such great fun!
