Mark 2:23 - 27
See the context here: Jesus vs Culture
We are now at Round 4 in this contest of the Pharisees looking for blame to cast on Jesus!
Round 1: Jesus can not forgive sin, only God may
Round 2: Jesus associates with sinners (rather than the Pharisees and Rabbis!)
Round 3: Jesus is not fasting
Round 4: well, read on!
Look To God
Jesus, walking through a wheat field was okay under the Law.
Jesus, plucking grain was okay under the Law.
But, the Pharisees classified this act of rubbing the grain and eating it as illegal on the Sabbath.
The Pharisees were looking for any wrong doing against THEIR traditions, not the Law.
The Pharisees were quick to condemn.
Place People Before Procedure
The Pharisees were judging based on oral traditions.
But, Jesus used their documented history in reply.
People are more important than our traditions.
Make Time
Rest is a gift, God told us to.
Worship is a gift, God told us to make time for it!
God gave this to us for our benefit.
Being a work-a-holic does not honor God, nor our families, nor even our physical bodies.
Genesis 20:8 ...
The Pharisees had created volumes on how to keep the Sabbath Holy, none of God had ever commanded!
God is the Lord of the Sabbath - Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
Paul tells us that the day, Friday, is only an example - any day can be a day of rest AND worship!
