I'm A Better Christian Because ...

Oh, Kris' tail feathers are up and in a frenzy!

So, Sunday there was a special singer whom came to play and sing during the offering time.  His voice was beautiful, his guitar playing was to be envied.  The guy was good.  So what is the problem?

Presented as a Messianic Jew, he came to bless us from his home in Jerusalem.  Okay ...  I am wary now. 

You have to understand that Messianic anything in Jerusalem is heavily frowned on, even more highly than just plain Christians living there.  Christians are sort of viewed like lice, they are everywhere, definitely not loved by the Jews unless they are tourists and going home - after having bought all they can carry home!  A Messianic Jew is a danger to the righteousness of Israel itself, in their opinion!  Messianic Jews are sought out, deported, discriminated against, vandalized (being nice here!), etc...

I now smelled a rat.

Typical, he is singing in Hebrew, which only one lady speaks in the church because she came from a Kibbutz in Israel decades ago.  I look around but she is not there.  I still remember a little Hebrew, not even enough to get my face slapped, but I do know God's names and he is slurring them.  Again, to a Jew, an affront to God.

His name is Jewish.  It took me an hour to figure out his real name and how he had changed it to be appear Jewish.  His only mistake is that he took the possessive form of God's name as part of his own name.  Uhm, maybe Judaism has changed but that was a massive no-no once upon a time, in my own lifetime.  Which is what set me off in trying to figure him and what was going on out!

His English is perfect.

And at the end of his performance, he gave a very traditional Taoist bow.

And it all fell together in my mind:
He is American, probably from California.
He may very well live in Israel.
He may very well have converted to Judaism.
But He was not a Jew whom became Christian!

So, not a Messianic Jew, but rather a Jewish-Christian.
Not from Israel, rather from America, living in Jerusalem.
Wanting to appear Jewish, he changed the spelling of his name to sound more middle eastern.

So, a fraud.  Sold off as being special because he wants as an entertainer to be special, to have a trick "in", with the Christian crowd.  Why?  Because he is selling CD's of his music!

Yeah, wolves can appear quite innocently.  But, they are still wolves. 

And this church stills need someone with discernment to steer its course.
