Jesus isn't looking for admirers.
He's looking for
disciples.
There are
many who start out as eager disciples.
They're on fire
with zeal
for the kingdom.
But
after a while the fire cools.
The
bright vision fades.
"After this
many of his disciples drew back and no longer went
about with
him. Jesus said to the twelve, 'Will you
also go away?'
Simon Peter
answered him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have
the words of
eternal life; and we have believed and have come to
know, that you
are the Holy One of God.'"
John 6:66-69
Daily, hourly,
the Spirit of the Lord Jesus asks each of us:
"Are
you with me?"
Am I with Him with my mind?
Am I with Him with my body?
Am I with Him in my spirit?
In the way I use my time?
In the way I
use my tongue?
The answer we give (both in word and deed)
either opens
or closes our hearts to the power of his Word.
Another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but let me
first say farewell
to those at my home."
Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his
hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of
God."
Luke 9:61-62
Something to think about,eh?
