A hard starting morning.
Trying to calm down from yesterday and the memories of terror.
I have never had anxiety before.
And terror was always a mute point,
I am invincible after-all ...
I spoiled myself and went out for breakfast.
I was seated, texting with some friends and overhearing the neighboring table's conversation. Three millennials are grouped around their phones, frantically thumbing their imaginary keyboards ... and getting frustrated.
"Man!"
"What the heck!"
"Where the $@#% are we?"
"I can't believe it, there is nothing to do here!", they proclaimed in unison.
The passing waitress comments, "Oh, I always go to NIMBY's when I am feeling lost or bored."
"Huh?", they looked up at her.
"Not In My Backyard, NIMBY's." (the local pot store)
"Ahhh ... any museums?"
"Well, NIMBY's has a large display and you can really get a toot on sampling all of their stuff."
She wanders away with a lost wistful look .....
Well now I know why service is what it is , but it is my town's only breakfast joint, much less brunch, location! So, you tolerate the cold eggs and pancakes. But at least the tea is piping hot!
The three trapped tourists look at each other.
"What the heck? We are trapped in the middle of NOWHERE!?!?!?!?"
I thought about commenting that we just had the brat trot run last weekend and every spring we have the cove to clover fun run ..... But, many of us believe that those two events are two, two many!
They continued to search the internet, with no knowledge of what they are doing and finally came to the conclusion that the nearest museums were in Portand, Oregon - just south of Vancouver, British Columbia. Now, how to get to Vancouver? The airport of course!
About ten more minutes of disparaging remarks about my town and I knew keeping my mouth shut was just the right choice.
Yup, those suckers are off on quite an adventure.
Sure hope they brought their passports ... :)
